Little Hope For Change

Friday, 31 October, 08

Seems the Obermessiah has decided that he better start letting some of his fanatics down early about his inability to change the world as promised in his big infomercial. Why is Fox the only major American news outlet reporting on this story? Here is a link to the story at TimesOnline.
The article also mentions that the Obermessiah ‘plans to make a major address in a big Muslim country early in his first term’. Apparently he learned nothing from that bumbling idiot Jimmy Carter.

Things That Go Bump In The Night

Friday, 31 October, 08

Apparently the ground under north Texas does. Local news stations are reporting that north Texas experienced 2 earthquakes last night. The information comes from the US Geological Survey. The first quake registered a 2.5 and centered in Grand Prairie. The second quake was a little stronger and registered a 3.0 on the Richter Scale. This quake centered around Irving. There is no reported damage.

Here are the links to the USGS reports. Grand Prairie. Irving.

Knock It Off

Wednesday, 29 October, 08

Ok, people time for a little criminal law 101.

This is not a hate crime.

In order for it to be a hate crime an actual crime has to have been committed. This is simply a distasteful expression of someones 1st amendment right to free speech. It wouldn’t even be a hate crime if they had strung up a black mannequin (but they would be catching a lot more flack) instead of a white one, so unknot your panties and stop being so quick to make everything you don’t like a crime.

Throwing Your Vote Away

Tuesday, 28 October, 08

Like what seems to be a growing number of people I am not happy with the way things have been going in Washington DC (and Austin) for quite some time now. In the past I have mostly voted straight Republican. I did this because I had more in common with the Republicans than the Democrats. I did it to keep the loony left from getting too much control. Finally, I did it because that is how gun owners are supposed to vote to prevent more useless gun control. There have been a few times that I voted for a good candidate of another party, or against a Republican I didn’t like. I also voted for Kinky Freidman in the last governors race because I didn’t want Rick Perry building that road to nowhere called the Trans-Texas Corridor. But for the most part I have voted Republican. No more. I am sick of seeing the Republicans either take part in screwing us or worse, doing nothing. I am not saying that they are all bad, but too many have lost their way or sold out. I would like to see Republicans who support less government, not just more conservative big government. That is one area where I agree with John McCain and one reason that I was able to vote for him. He realizes that spending is out of control in both parties. I also voted for John Cornyn, because except for the bailout vote he has done a fairly good job of voting responsibly. I also voted for him because I believe that a strong Democrat majority in congress is the last thing we need right now. I voted for my Republican state representative because he has done a good job. I voted Libertarian for every other race except those that were uncontested or only offered a choice between Democrat and Republican. I had to vote Democrat for county commissioner because the Republican is a jerk.

I believe that if it were not for the strength of the NRA many Republicans would have sold out gun owners long ago. I am tired of only being able to hold the status quo on gun rights. I don’t like the fact that my 2nd amendment rights currently hinge on one vote in the Supreme Court. One vote is all it would take to abolish the 2nd amendment in the Bill of Rights. I have decided that the best way to achieve a change is to support local third party candidates and to help build a base for future state and national elections. While I do not agree with everything the Libertarians support I refuse to continue to eat the same crap sandwich from the RNC year after year. So, I guess I will just have to “throw my vote away” until I can vote for someone instead of against their opponent.

Nanny State At Its Best

Tuesday, 28 October, 08

Half of children surveyed in England will be dependent on others to make decisions for the rest of their lives a new study shows. The study also shows that two thirds of British children surveyed have a lack of curiosity and hormones. The study also says that nanny stateism has been so successful there that they now count persons up to 20 years old as children. So, I guess they really are sending children off to war.

The article in The Times Online is about a study by Ofsted. The study is titled ‘Future Care: Children’s Advice On Future Care Standards’. The first problem I have with the article is that you don’t take advice from your children on how to raise them. That is like the mechanic coming to me and asking me how to fix my pickup. I agree that precautions need to be taken to protect children from becoming victims of online predators. I also agree that children do not need to have access to inappropriate sexual sites. However, the job of the parent is to educate children so that they can do these things on their. Parents are also supposed to catch their children when they try to do things online they aren’t supposed to. Parents should not have to sit and monitor their 14 year old every time he or she goes online. If you have to do that either to keep them safe, or because they don’t feel safe without you there then you have failed as a parent.

Children should want to be independent, not so scared of going online that they need adult supervision.

Article link is here.

Study link is here.

I didn’t read the whole study, figured I would go into meltdown.

One other thing I noticed though was that two thirds of the participants were boys with an average age of 14. The study found that two thirds of the participants supported blocking access to graphic or inappropriate websites. That means that at least half of a group of boys with an average age of 14 support limiting their ability to look at someone naked or something they are not supposed to if that is the case then those boys are not normal and the nanny state has succeeded.

Criminal Masterminds

Tuesday, 28 October, 08

When I first saw the headline yesterday that someone was wearing a scream mask while committing robberies close to Halloween in Fort Worth, I didn’t think much of it. Then I happened to see a video of one of the robberies on the news this morning. Sure enough, one of the robbers was wearing a mask from the movie ‘Scream’. The robber was also wearing a hooded sweatshirt with the hood raised. It did a good job of concealing his identity. His genius partner however was wearing no mask and a wife beater shirt. Now, common sense would seem to dictate that if you and your buddy are getting ready to commit a crime and he dresses to conceal his identity, you should dress in a similar manner. Not this rocket scientist.
